Q1. You are required to design a stand-alone solar PV system for a rural home with the following electrical load designed to operate on single phase, 230 V 50 Hz supply. The type of load, the rated power and the number of hours each load is used are as shown in the table1. Table 2 MAX MPP MPP Cells 36 Nominal Voltage 12 V 170 Wp 19.2V 8.85 A 23.4V 9.35 A Assume an average yearly solar insolation of 5 kWh/m2 per day at the location of rural home. Also assume that the overall efficiency of the system due to all the connected equipment is 70%. (0) List all the major components required for the installation of the PV system. (ii) Calculate the daily energy consumption in Watt-hour (Wh). (II) Calculate the number of solar panels required. (iv) Calculate the number of 12 V, 200 Ah batteries required assuming a depth of discharge of 80%.
