A steel cylinder with 400 mm outside diameter and wall thickness of 25 mm is filled with concrete and
used as a pier to support an axial load in compression. If the allowable stresses are 150 MPa for steel and 18
MPa for concrete and if the modulus of elasticity for steel is 200 GPa and for concrete is 19.2 GPa, What is the
allowable load for the pier?
