4. Bar ABC shown in Figure 4 is made from plastic having modulus of elasticity, E = 4.0 GPa. The bar consists of two segments, AB and BC. The diameter of segments AB and BC are d1 = 100 mm and d2 = 60 mm, respectively. A longitudinal hole of diameter d is drilled through segment AB for one half of its length (250 mm). If the shortening (contraction) of bar ABC is limited to 8.0 mm, determine; i. Draw the free – body diagram (F.B.DO and determine the deformation of segment BC. (4 marks) ii. Calculate the maximum allowable diameter dmax of the hole. (6 marks)
